Discovering Château Haut Guiraud

A family property steeped in history since 1876, five generations of men of the art, winegrowers and coopers, have passed on their traditional know-how to Christophe Bonnet, who succeeds his father Jean. The 48 hectare estate overlooks the Gironde estuary.

Offering a boundless horizon over the vineyards of the Côtes-de-Bourg, visitors to Château Haut-Guiraud will fall under the spell of a cellar with an old-fashioned look, all authenticity and simplicity, where history reigns supreme.

Local

The variety of soils in Côtes-de-Bourg is rich, with clay, limestone and sand in the soils of Château Haut-Guiraud. Also, its meso-climate provides slightly more sunshine than the average for the region, less extreme temperatures and less rainfall than in the rest of Bordeaux. 

Château Haut-Guiraud produces 3 different grape varieties, mainly Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon, as well as Malbec. 

Focus on the environment

Currently in organic conversion, Christophe Bonnet's vineyard is also certified HVE 3rd level (High Environmental Value).

The team's working philosophy is based on "the constant search for quality in favour of biodiversity". At Château Haut-Guiraud, yields are low and grass is permanently planted to reduce erosion. Also, the grapes are picked at optimum maturity and leaf removal and manual thinning are the main parameters of the vineyard work. 

Plot selection is applied in the vineyard, with the oldest vines being destined for the Château's prestige cuvee, Péché du Roy. 

In terms of maturation, some wines are aged in oak barrels and others in vats.
