Discovering Togouchi Whiskies

Founded in 2017, the Sakurao distillery is located in the mountainous region of Hiroshima. The distillery covers an area of over 2225 m² and has a "hybrid" still, as well as a still for grain distillation.

 

Since 2022, Togouchi is 100% produced from the juices of the Sakurao distillery. The Sakurao distillery is one of the only distilleries in Japan to distil grain in its coffey still and malt in pot still. All the whiskies are then aged in the tunnel in the heart of the Hiroshima mountains.
 

Using carefully selected malts and grains, the master blender begins maturing the distillates in Japan. The whiskies are matured in casks in a unique location, an old railway tunnel 361 metres deep in the heart of Sandankyo Mountain. These ideal ageing conditions lead to a maturation process that gives Togouchi its finesse and purity.

TOGOUCHI KIWAMI 70 CL - 40°

• An unconventional profile for a Japanese whisky
• The perfect blend of Scottish heritage and Japanese blending skills
• Contains 30% malted barley for toasty notes

The nose is elegant and lively with aromas of nuts and grass. The palate is soft and refined with flavours of hazelnut, chocolate, honey and white pepper. The finish is subtle with a slight spice and nutmeg taste.

TOGOUCHI SAKÉ CASK FINISH 70 CL - 40°

• A new expression in the Japanese whisky segment. 
• Matured in bourbon casks
• Finished for 3 months in Saké casks directly from the Chukogu Jozo cellars
• A reference reserved for the wine merchant circuit

The nose is delicate with aromas of vanilla, green apple and malt. The palate is complex with lactic, woody and white fruit flavours. The finish is long with a light spice, white fruit and malt flavour.

TOGOUCHI PURE MALT 70 CL - 40°

• The first blended malt whisky in the Japanese range.
• A blend of single malts aged between 3 and 9 years, very lightly peated
• Aged in a combination of Sherry and Bourbon casks

The nose is greedy with aromas of vanilla, chocolate and ripe apricots. The palate is soft with sweet peat and fresh cream flavours. The finish is persistent with a light taste of bitter chocolate and hazelnut.

TOGOUCHI SINGLE MALT 70 CL - 43°

• 1st single malt of the Togouchi range from the Sakurao distillery
• Double maturation in Bourbon and Sherry casks
• Neither coloured nor chill-filtered.

The nose is fresh with aromas of vanilla, apple and orange marmalade. The palate is round and smooth with dried fruit and sugar flavours. The finish is crisp and short with a light taste of sweet spice and ginger.
