What wine to serve with your oysters?
Oysters and dry white wine: the tradition
It's a tradition! Oysters have long been accompanied by dry, fruity white wines. Indeed, these wines with their acidic persistence will accompany the iodized taste of the oyster, which will sublimate the acidity in the mouth. The wine must be very fresh to accompany the oysters, and it can be served with both cold and warm oysters.
You can choose Muscadet du Pays Nantais, Gros Plant du Pays Nantais, Chablis, Entre-deux-mers (Bordeaux), dry Jurançon (South West) or Sancerre. For an exotic touch, Alsace wine will do the trick, with for example a white Sylvaner from Alsace or a Riesling from Alsace.
For a slightly less traditional arrangement:
You can opt for champagne: the bubbles reinforce the acidic flavours of the wine and thus bring more freshness during the tasting. Also, champagne served as an aperitif will arrive at the same time as the oysters, at the beginning of the meal. It also goes very well with warm oysters. We therefore recommend a brut or extra brut champagne which will go perfectly with warm oysters as a main course or as an aperitif. The fine bubbles and acidity of these champagnes will enhance the product and balance the iodine side.
