Cantina Castiadas
Sardinia...in the glass!
Cantina Castiadas, founded in 1959, is located at the southeastern tip of Sardinia (50 km from Cagliari). The vineyards are located on the mountain slopes, facing the sea, in a wonderful landscape of immense white beaches and clear turquoise sea.
A unique microclimate, which benefits from the proximity of the sea and the sea breeze which at night reduces the heat due to the island's sun. The combination of the ancient tradition of the typical viticulture of the area and the most modern technologies of winemaking has allowed the development of a range of high quality wines, among which the Cannonau (this wine has the prestigious sub-denomination "CAPO FERRATO") and the Vermentino.
These two wines are the best known in Sardinia. They go well with local cuisine and, increasingly, with international cuisine.
Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C. Capo Ferrato Cala dei Mori is made from 100% Cannonau grapes harvested by hand from 25-year-old vineyards. After a light pressing and a fermentation of about 10 days at controlled temperature, the wine remains for one year in steel tanks and 6 months in the bottle for maturing. Brilliant ruby red with purplish tints, bouquet with scents of red flowers and aromatic herbs typical of the region of production (myrtle especially). Medium-bodied, well-balanced, round and pleasant aftertaste. It goes well with roasted meat, game and Sardinian sheep's cheese (Pecorino Sardo DOP).
Vermentino di Sardegna D.O.C. Cala dei Mori (100% Vermentino) undergoes a light pressing, cold stabilisation and fermentation at low temperature of the must separated from the skins for 15 days. Its beautiful colour is straw yellow with greenish reflections, bright and luminous. Its bouquet is rather intense, fine and persistent. Aromas of white-fleshed fruit and light citrus fruit notes. It has a good aromatic intensity, balanced and harmonious. It is characterised by mineral and fresh flavours. It is the "summer" wine par excellence that goes well with light starters (tomato & mozzarella, salads, etc), fish dishes but it is also perfect as an aperitif.
