Château Gigognan's environmental commitment

Château Gigognan's environmental commitment

The viticulture of Château Gigognan

The entire vineyard of Château Gigognan follows the natural rhythm of the terroir and has been under organic farming for many years. Always striving for excellence, the estate has progressively integrated the small details of biodynamics to provide the best service to the vines and the land. Rigorous and precise work is carried out every day in the vineyard, just like the rows. The cultivation of the grain is carried out to ensure a vegetal cover, which is one of the characteristics of the estate.

Discover the testimony of Christophe Censier, commercial director of Château Gigognan on the environmental commitment of the estate.

  1. How long have you been working in organic farming?

"Château Gigognan started an organic conversion in 2000. It is now certified organic since 2010. - C. Censier

  1. What was your motivation to convert to organic farming?

"Our main motivation for converting to organic farming was above all to offer wines with terroir identity. This means excluding inputs for the purity of our wines." - C. Censier

  1. How long did it take you to convert your vineyards to full organic farming?

"The conversion to organic farming has taken us 18 years of work for all our wines". - C. Censier

  1. What are the different steps to follow to convert your estate and obtain the organic label?

"It is above all a philosophy, a state of mind, an art of living and finally respecting the health of our customers. - C. Censier

  1. How do you improve your environmental approach on a daily basis?

"Without claiming the BIO label, our farming methods are oriented towards Biodynamics, respect for climate issues and awareness of our carbon footprint.

We are putting in place various elements to improve our environmental approach on a daily basis such as: working the soil, grassing our plots, the intervention of a shepherd and his flock when our sowing allows it, the installation of 20 beehives, the planting of 300 olive trees, the installation of bat nesting boxes, the choice of light bottles, the installation of a mini purification station for the treatment of waste water, the selective sorting of our waste." - C. Censier
