Discovering the Château de Pennautier
In the heart of the Languedoc, a few kilometres from Carcassonne and its city, the Château de Pennautier is the witness of 4 centuries of history. Classified as a Historic Monument, the Château de Pennautier, nicknamed "Le Petit Versailles du Languedoc", is one of the most beautiful buildings in the region.
A rare history
Château de Pennautier was built in 1620 by Bernard Reich de Pennautier, Treasurer of the States of Languedoc.
In 1622, he welcomed King Louis XIII, who gave him his travel furniture, which is still preciously guarded to the castle.
In 1670, it was enlarged by Le Vau, architect of the Château de Versailles. At the same time, the famous Landscaper Le Nôtre designs the Park, classified as a Remarkable Garden in 2018.
As early as 1701, Pennautier wines were served at the table of the King's officers at Versailles.
Handed down without interruption from generation to generation, the vienyards has been renovated since 1960: improvement of the grape varieties, reconquest of scrubland, and the return of the high altitude plots.

A true signature
The vineyard is situated between 230 and 260 metres above sea level, where the coolness at night allows the daytime heat to be delayed, guaranteeing slow ripening of the grapes and the preservation of the aromas.
Altitude is a major element in the balance of the wines, allowing the finesse and elegance of the terroirs and grape varieties to be expressed.
